While Brutus adores Caesar as a companion, he is against the ascension of any man to the position of ruler, and he worry that Caesar aspire to such authority. Brutus's stiff sense of honor makes it easy for Caesar's enemies to influence him into believing that Caesar must die in order to protect the republic. Brutus speaks to the crowd, reassuring them that they may trust in his honor. Brutus justly believes that Caesar's death will benefit Rome.
