Definitions:
Chapter 1

Spatial skills- the skills that you use to know how objects are arranged in the real world and in maps and drawings.

Relative Location- Description of where an object is. The description includes the direction and also the distance of the object to another object.

Absolute Location- A description of where an object is. The description pinpoints the object’s location using the labels from a grid.

Place- A location or area to which people may feel attached because of its physical and human characteristics.

Physical Characteristics- The features of landscape, climate and vegetation or plant life that make one place different from another.

Human Characteristics- Features related to people that can make one place different from another place. They include language, religion, government, the economy, population and culture.
