World War 1

It seems strange that the trigger cause of an entire World War
would be the shooting of a man who’s own government didn’t really care about. The main factor causing the outbreak of World War 1 was the timing and location of the assassination, not the actual assassination itself. Most European countries wanted war but did not think that they were strong enough to withstand and win a war of that scale. However, when the shooting took place, Austria-Hungary knew that Germany would support them so they felt that they could attack and claim back Serbia as well as secure their position as a strong empire in Europe. Germany had spent almost half a century building up her army and navy and wanted “in” on the scramble for Africa and other colonies, so they felt they needed to go to war in order to secure their position.
