Women¡¦s 19th Century Emotional Scars Women¡¦s 19th Century Emotional Scars In the short story ¡§The Story of an Hour¡¨ by Kate Chopin, the author expresses the emotions of a wife caused by the husband¡¦s death. Written in 1894, the story exemplifies the lack of freedom wives have under the men¡¦s discrimination. During those days, men always had the authority over women. With the usage of a third person point of view and a variety of setting images, the author communicates a sudden change in the perception of a wife¡¦s view of her life and of her surroundings with the absence of the men¡¦s discrimination. The control that men imposes on women changes the way the female¡¦s perception of life and death of her surroundings and on the views she has about how a relationship in marriage is supposed to be like.
