Women in the New England had deeply held beliefs. They relied on the Bible and their faith in God in order to get through the trials and tribulations of that time. When women became ill they were still expected to carry on with the expected duties of the household and well as many other chores. The women of the New World were expected to just pray for their safety as well as the safety of their families. Mary Rowlandson and Anne Bradstreet are prime examples of the women in the New World. Mary Rowlandson and Anne Bradstreet endured several trials and tribulations. Throughout these trials and tribulations, these women were able to continue to rely on their deeply held beliefs.
Mary Rowlandson relied on her faith in the providence of God to sustain herself during her period of captivity. Indians ransacked the town of Lancaster in February of 1675.
