Why Lutheranism and Calinism became permenent variations of christianity.

Lutheranism and Calvinism were able to become permanent variations to Christianity due to many factors. Because of Germany’s unhappiness with papal policies and power, The Ninety-Five Theses written by Martin Luther was widely received after it was translated into German. Luther’s Ninety-Five Theses questioned the church’s abuses in the sale of indulgences, which were supposed to be a way to salvation if you possessed them. In the Leipzig Debate in 1519 with a catholic theologian Johann Eck, Luther denied the authority of popes and councils. In 1520 Luther authored 3 pamphlets that proposed a break with the Catholic Church. Luther called for German Princes to break away from the church in The Address to the Nobility of the German Nation and proposed new ideas such as marriage among the clergy, which he wrote about in On the Freedom of a Christian man.
