Why Does Uncle Rondo Where Pink Pajamas?

At first glance, one might assume that Eudora Welty’s usage of fanatical characters and an eccentric plot in her short story, “Why I Live at the P.O.” would make for a confusing read… well you’re right. Her story often questioned my ability to comprehend basic English while other times I wondered if I had accidentally flipped the pages to another mind-numbing story included in our text. These questions that often scurried through my head make Welty’s story one of the most memorable pieces of literature I have read in my college career. While most stories that are deemed bizarre would be thrown out with the bathwater, Welty chooses to captivate the reader with rich descriptions of characters, fast paced narration, and seemingly only producing just enough information within the plot to keep you guessing.
Of course, “Why I Live at the P.O.” deals with typical issues we see today such as sibling rivalry, divorce and dysfunctional families. The difference with this ...
