Who’s to Blame?

Is music really to blame for the actions taken by people? Kevin J. H. Dettmar and Marilyn Manson have both expressed reasons as to why music isn’t to blame for the unthinkable actions taken by people. They discuss two different situations where the media turns the blame on music and the artists, and in turn give reasons for their opinions.
Kevin J. H. Dettmar, and English teacher at Southern Illinois University at Carbondale, and a father of a 14-year-old daughter, wrote an essay entitled Grasping the Dark Images of Rock. The essay discusses the suicide of a Columbine High School junior named Greg Barns. His daughter heard of the suicide nearly a week after it happened, on a local radio station.
