When Worlds Collide
Antigione presents the four basic “loves” or “worldviews”: love of family, love of country, love of sex and love of God. Each character posses one or more of these worldviews. The conflict of these worlds leads to tragedy. I contend that these worldviews are universal and still collide today, resulting in problems, if not tragedies.

Each of the main characters emphasizes a particular worldview of life. Antigone’s sister loves country; the son loves sex (he is engaged to Antigone); the mother loves family; and Antigone loves God. Of course, each character has other loves, or lesser worldviews. For instance, Antigone also shows love of family in her love of her brothers.
