What is the difference between Tom and Huck’s friendship at the beginning of the novel and at the end?

Tom Sawyer and Huck Finn are best friends. They spend a lot of time together and have many adventures. A good friend is my nearest relation – this proverb seems to express their feelings towards each other. However, after a deeper analysis it becomes obvious they don’t have much in common except the age and admiration for adventures. Their mutual relations evolve as Huck matures during his rafting expedition.
At the beginning of the novel Huck’s attitude towards Tom is that of admiration and respect. Tom is definitely a leader-type; he is the one who plans the games and effortlessly imposes his ideas on the other boys. He reads a lot of adventure books on which he models his detailed intrigues.
