We All Laughed

We all laughed. Why? I was not sure.
Monday morning. The horrible truth was to be unfolded. I was tensed, everyone was. There was good reason for it too. The moment came at last. Mrs Smith strolled into the Science laboratory with an air of dignity around her. We pulled back our chairs and greeted her.
“Thank you girls! Now, do you remember what we are supposed to do in this lesson?” Mrs Smith questioned. We remembered of course. Silent prayers were said, fingers were crossed and deep breaths inhaled. I glanced at Venus, my best friend. She gave me a weak smile in return. The answer was obvious, but nonetheless, we hoped for the best. Mrs Smith spoke,
“Good news girls!” My heart leapt for joy. Could it be?
“Your class has been selected to go to Kelator Island to do a clean-up operation!” Ours hearts skipped a beat. Shouts and groans followed.
“Yes! We shall proceed to discuss the dates and times of the operation, … ” her voice trailed off in my head. I ...
