I hope that everything is well at home. I really miss you and the rest of our family. I hope that you are taking care of my horse. I want to tell you what life is like here .I really do not want you to worry about me. I really need to let you know what I am going through here. The winter here has been harsh. We have no clothes except the ones on our backs. When they get wet, we have nothing else. Some of the men have severe frost bite. They are getting worse because they have no shoes or socks to where on their feet. We are sleeping in log cabins. The log cabins are leaking due to the weight of the snow. We do not have a place to make a fire in them, therefore we are freezing. The food is no longer coming through because the roads are now covered in snow and the supplies can not get to us. We are now starving and in need of food and drinks. Many of the men are dieing of diseases like small pox. We have lost at least 200 men at this point. Many are ill or dying.
