Have you ever been forced to do anything especially something that you didn’t want to do? Being forced to do something feels like date rape. Date rape is knowing the person who is forcing you to do something that you do not want to do. In this case, a child was forced to open her mouth and let a doctor examine her throat. The characters in “The Use of Force” that symbolize different uses of force throughout the story are the child, the father and the doctor.
The child in this story had a positive use of force even though the throat culture would have been for the best. This child had been suffering from a sickness for many days. She had been hiding it from everyone, including her parents. The parents finally called in a doctor. But, their child was terrified by doctors.
