Tuesdays with Morrie

The moving story, Tuesdays with Morrie, conveys a lasting and important message to each of its readers. There are many valuable lessons that can be taken from the reading of this book. Mitch, Morrie’s former professor, mentor and good friend, not only shows sympathy and compassion towards Morrie in his final months, but rediscovers many of life’s lessons along the way. Many of these were taught to him by his elder professor in earlier years. One of the main issues that Mitch has failed to see throughout his life is the selfish, money-oriented and status driven world that he has fallen into. The world we live in today is greatly influenced by materialism, thus making the search for happiness a difficult one. The role which compassion plays is often manipulated because of this overbearing materialism. Through the important impromptu lessons with his “coach”, Mitch begins to understand concepts that can be applied to all aspects of life.
