Too much knowledge is a dangerous thing as Oedipus discovers” Discuss

Knowledge is the force that drives mankind. In gaining knowledge, humans develop and grow, learning more of their environment. We still must not fail to consider that a search for knowledge is purely human. Oedipus is very much human, but as he learns, knowledge has its own flip side, which is that of destruction. For Oedipus, knowledge is an awareness of his true identity, who his father is and what is in hold for his people. Essentially, Oedipus is probing into the realms of his past, present and future. Associated with knowledge is the concept of understanding. This is equally as dangerous as knowledge, for with (mis)understanding, options for a required course of action emerge and if the knowledge we possess is misinterpreted, the outcome may be dangerous. Danger (the potential to cause harm) may arise from the particular knowledge and understanding gained, and in Oedipus’ case have grave consequences.
