The Things They Carried

“The Things They Carried” characterization
Tim O’Brien’s story “The Things They Carried” was a story that showed the life of a group of soldiers over in the Vietnam War and the life that goes on while fighting a war. This story implies that not only did the soldiers have to carry out the equipment, weapons and other goods of necessity, but they also showed the physical, emotional and grueling side of being a soldier. This story carries several characteristics and similarities that a soldier who might be fighting currently overseas deals with on a daily basis. These soldiers didn’t just feel for themselves, but also they felt feelings for their fellow comrades.
O’Brien story has a different feel to it compared to other stories that I’ve read in the past. He shows a way of covering everything in detail, such as the equipment and weapons that the soldiers carried along with the emotional burden that they also felt. He seemed to cover every single item ...
