The Stage

Theatrical space is a very important aspect of an audience’s
experience at a play. There are many different ways that plays can be
presented to audiences. Four common arrangements are the proscenium, arena,
thrust, and flexible stages found in theatre. I believe that the play Betty’s
Summer Vacation had proscenium style arrangement. While this style of staging
is generally more formal and distances the crowd from the actors, Betty’s
Summer Vacation went against these standards. While the script of the play
went against the general guidelines for your classic, formal, proscenium
performances, the staging was the appropriate choice for this production. The
formality of the theatre, along with the size and arrangement of the stage
elements all were characteristics of a proscenium stage in my opinion.
Betty’s Summer Vacation was performed at the Ruth N. Halls Theatre
which has a nice lobby, auditorium seating, and a more formal atmosphere. The ...
