The Sabbath

A worldview is how an individual views the world. It is the interconnected understanding of human nature, cosmos, sacred material, world, ethics, time, and history. In The Sabbath, by Abraham Heschel, the worldviews focus around time and space. Space, in this book, is used to describe the material world, ones desire for possessions, and is also used as one of the main reasons people work. All of the previous characteristics of space can be controlled by us. On the other hand, time can not be controlled. The worldviews in The Sabbath state that we should value time because we are finite, that the Sabbath is a day of rest and not work, and also shows the tension between the world of space and the world of time.
