The Power of Proper Grammar: A Critique of Andy Lamey’s Going Nuclear over Nucular

Many English language buffs in today’s modern society bemoan the constant misuse of the English language. It seems, to many, that no one knows ( or cares to use) proper English anymore. Andy Lamey’s article Going Nuclear over Nucular is an examination of the situation from an unusual standpoint. Andy Lamey, a journalist with the National Post, holds the view that grammatical correctness is just another form of snobbery. He attacks grammar buffs, or “language bullies” as he likes to call them. He commences his tirade by admitting that he too was once a “language bully”. He defines the term by citing that their prerogative is to attack: “anything and everything that came out of people’s mouths.” to demonstrate their “vast learning”.
