In “Jane Eyre’s Flights from Decision,” the author explains why the novel itself has caused so much controversy. For years critics have argued about everything and everyone that had to do with the novel. Some say that Jane’s character is contradicting and that the novel’s unity is weak and others don’t agree. At the same time critics argue about how Jane ultimately resolved her conflict in the end. Was it a choice between her values, or did she come to a balance? The author seems to believe that Jane never made a final decision at all. The conflict was never resolved, so that is responsible for the apparent weaknesses in the novel.
