The History and Nature of Curriculum

There are two main reasons why the study of curriculum history is important to educators. It is important for what it can tell about what was done right and for what was done wrong. Of course the right and wrongness is to a certain extent subjective in nature. Educators can however see the results of past curriculum decisions in terms of the impact those decisions have had on society. By observing the actions of society after changes to the curriculum some inferences can be drawn concerning cause and effect. By extended observations over long periods of time it is possible to determine how to use a curriculum to manipulate a society.
The study of curriculum history can help in avoiding mistakes. Of course that only works if the information helps us in not repeating what caused the problem to begin with.
