THE EVIL



The novel Lord of the Flies by William Golding used a group of British boys beached on a deserted island to illustrate the evil in mankind. Lord of the Flies dealt with the changes the boys went through as they gradually adapted to the secluded freedom from their society. William Golding’s basic philosophy that society was evil within could be related to such incidents as Simon's death, the beast within the boys, and the way Ralph was intensly hunted.

Through the story Simon acted as the Christ Figure. Simon's death symbolized the loss of religious reasoning. As the boys killed Simon they had let out their savage urges and began to act like cannibals. Even after Simon's death, Jack and his tribe did not feel any regret to what they had done, killing to them had become a second nature.“Kill the beast! Cut his throat!
