The Effectiveness of Boot Camp on Juvenile Delinquents

Boot Camps are a relatively new form of corrections for juvenile offenders. The basic idea behind this program is to reform young criminals through a military regimen of hard work, physical training, and strict obedience to rules and regulations (Burns, Vito 1). Boot camps are often used as an alternative to other types of corrections for juveniles and often after nothing else has worked in getting the juvenile to stop committing criminal acts. Boot camp is somewhat of a form of shock incarceration an has not been proven to be very effective in rehabilitating juvenile offenders by making them realize the negative benefits of committing crimes (Simons 2). The most important goals for this program is instilling morals and values, to make certain the offenders are accountable for their actions, and to increase academics (Sharp 5).
