This was also a spark for the beginning of the First Crusade. It all began around 1095 AD when the Crusades (Holy Wars) began. In November 18, 1095 AD, the Council of Clermont was opened by the Pope. After nine days, the Pope presented a speech, during which he told Christians to begin a Holy War to once again claim the Holy Lands. This was the more obvious reason to why the First Crusade began.
