In The Crucible, John Proctor did. In the story, John Proctor was accused of witchcraft, and the only way to save his name was to be hanged. John Proctor was a good man with a good name in the town of Salem. John was so egotistical that he was hanged just to save his name. John Proctor’s decision to die at the end of the story was right because he saved his name, he helped his kids, and he wouldn’t be able to live with himself anyway. John Proctor’s decision was right because he saved his name. Proctor: “Because it is my name!†Pg. 143. His main purpose for dying was to save his name, and he accomplished that. John Proctor had a very good name in Salem. Almost everyone in the town liked him, and they thought he could do nothing ...
