A Comparison of Two Short Stories by Kate Chopin-
“The Story of an Hour” and “The Blindman”

I have been studying two short stories written by Kate Chopin - “The Story of an Hour” and “The Blindman”. Kate Chopin wrote both stories in the late 19th Century at a time of great technological development and industrialisation, this caused a rift between the rich and the poor. Both stories are based on repression, for example; The “Blindman” is discriminated against due to class repression as he is discriminated against for being blind. “the Story of an hour”, however, is based on gender repression- Mrs Mallard’s husband controls her life and when she finds out that her husband is dead she experiences freedom.
