The Color Purple by Alice Walker is a wonderful story. This novel is a story about a young woman named Celie. Celie is the narrator in this novel. She tells this story in the form of her letters written to God.
The first letter Celie writes is when she is fourteen years old. Celie is a poor black girl. Celie’s mother is ill. Celie’s father, Pa, rapes her and causes her to get pregnant. Celie is forced to quit school. Celie gets pregnant a second time and never gets to see her children. After each child is born, Pa takes the babies to town to sell them to families.
Celie’s mother dies from her illness. Pa never admitted to Celie’s mother that he was the father of Celie’s children. Celie protects her younger sister, Nettie, from her abusive father. Nettie is much prettier than Ceie. Pa calls Celie “ugly” most of the time.
A man by the name of Mr. ________ comes along asking for Nettie’s hand in marriage. Pa would not ...
