Surf Fishing for Striped Bass

“Striped bass and surf fishermen were made for each other” (Fallon-127). The striped bass, also known as striper, is one of the most sought after fish for surf fishermen. Stripers are caught in the surf and also two to three miles off shore. Stripers are the perfect surf fish. It has two triangular dorsal fins, jut jawed prow, it is a lot longer than wide, and a broad tail that makes it a quick fish. “Above its white belly, seven or eight longitudinal strips run along scale rows on its silvery sides. The striper’s back can be green, blue, black and occasionally even a reddish brown” (Fallon-128). The size of these fish rang from the usual ten pounders to the scarce twenty to thirty pounders. The record size was by a man names Ed Kirker, his striper was 72lbs.
