Stopping By Woods on a Snowy Evening

"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" is one of Robert Frost's best-known and loved poems. To many, this is because Frost is a talented poet who often expresses himself through his writing. His poems use simple, uncomplicated language to convey his thoughts and feelings to the reader in an effort of understanding and clarity. But in many of his poems the language used by Frost hides a deeper more complex meaning that provokes a level of thought in the reader. The poem just read is an obvious example of this technique.

After reading this poem for the first time, I found that it was telling a simple story about a time when Frost had rested for a short while in the woods under the soft, light winter snow. On the surface level this seems to be a straightforward account of a real life scenario, but after another ten or so read throughs I realised that Frost was trying to convey a deeper meaning than this.
