What factors contributed to the emergence of Stalinism in the Soviet Union?



The rise of Stalinism in the Soviet Union can not be contributed to a solo mission of a quest for power by Stalin himself, instead it was a result of events in the preceding years and a result not only of work by Stalin but also political opposition in the Soviet Union among other things. There is little doubt on the impact of Stalinism in world history but it is important to realise that his rise to power cannot be solely credited to him because had some other things not happened or had some things been done differently then Stalinism may not have been an issue. Stalin took advantage of the political atmosphere and circumstances in the Soviet Union. In this essay I will concentrate on various elements, which contributed to the birth of Stalinism such as conflicts within the party leadership and the emergence of the hated NEP.
