SPORTSMANSHIP
What is sportsmanship? The virtue of sportsmanship is very hard to define. What is sportsmanship to one man is gross to another. A lot has been written about sportsmanship in trout fishing, mostly about the common courtesy and politeness between two men on a stream. Every fisherman knows to stay away from another fellow’s water so as not to disturb his fishing. Sportsmanship is defined as conduct and attitude considered as befitting participants in sports, especially fair play, courtesy, striving spirit, and grace in losing.
Sportsmanship is not a system of morals; it’s more of a civilized code. Sports ethics today tolerates the killing of fish and game. In fact the kill is often the reason for the hunt. But it doesn’t tolerate methods of killing that are inhumane or easily accompli...
