Sophie's Choice

Sophie’s Choice was directed by Alan J. Pakula and made in 1982. It stars Meryl Streep, Keven Kline, and Peter MacNicol. The movie takes place a few years after World War II. A young author named Stingo moves to a rented room in a house in Brooklyn. His first night there he meets his neighbors, a couple, Sophie Zawistowska and Nathan Landau. In almost no time, he and this couple become inseparable. As he gets closer and closer to both Sophie and Nathan, he finds himself falling in love with Sophie but unable to trust Nathan, whose mood swings are pretty scary. Stingo learns from Nathan’s brother that Nathan has a mental disorder, which is the cause of Nathan’s paranoia and violent mood swings. Sophie and most of Nathan’s friends are unaware of this so Nathan’s brother swears Stingo to secrecy and asks Stingo to keep an eye on him.
