Social Fraternities: Advantage or disadvantage?

It’s college time! What does that mean? High school graduates are excited. From New York to California, graduates are ecstatic about their new found independence, meeting different people, getting involved in sports, various social functions and most of all sorority and fraternity groups. For the women there are sororities and for the guys, there are fraternity groups. Focusing more on the fraternity groups, one may ask: Well what draws the attention of so many young men to fraternities such as, the Phi Beta Kappa’s, Alpha Phi Alpha’s, Alpha Delta Phi’s and Sigma Alpha Epsilon’s? The answer is this: a feeling of belonging, social interactivity, getting involved in various community activities, bonding with others of similar background or religion and the list goes on. Universities and colleges all over the country have fraternities, but the question is: are fraternities for the students best interest? Many would respond saying yes, however, many would say no.
