Slavery and Abolition

Abolitionists sought to abolish slavery. Free african americans had urged the end of slavery for years; gradually more and more white americans took up the cause. Some were encouraged by Finney and others who preached against slavery as a sin. William Lloyd arrison started the Liberator which was dedicated to abolition. He changed the abolitionist's goal from a gradual end to an immediate end.
