The book mainly focuses on a young homeless boy called Link and the general issues about homelessness. The novel is written in first person narrative through the eyes of the two main characters, Link and Shelter. The two characters are very different from each other and have contrasting attitudes to life. The author introduces the two main characters separately. Link is featured first and this tells the reader a little about how Link is feeling. He is sad and angry because he is ‘invisible’ to everybody and homeless people are ‘living proof that everything is not all right’ in the world. This part of the novel is structured using short sentences and questions. Then the author introduces Shelter. This part of novel is confusing.
