Shame
Dick Gregory explains his personal portrayal of shame in this story extremely well with personal experiences. He expresses how he never learned hate or shame at home however he did at school which I can relate to in my individual experiences. School can be an incredibly tough place to be as a child. You have a variety of people, personalities, and groups to deal with. Gregory tells how he falls in love with a girl in his class and how he would put much more time and effort in to getting ready for school just for her. I remember times throughout grade school when I would do the exact same thing. There is a strange feeling that comes over you when you feel like this for a person. You may start doing things differently than you normally would. Whether it be brushing your hair when other times you would not or having mother pick out and iron your clothes for the day when you would never do that either. Your actions change completely.
