Rosa Parks

On December 1, 1955, Rosa Parks of Montgomery, Alabama took her seat in the front of the “colored section” of a bus. The driver asked Rosa Parks and three other black drivers to give up their seats to white passengers, but Rosa refused (the others complied). Ms. Parks had been tired and weary from a long day of work. The bus driver called the police, and Rosa was arrested for violating a city ordinance regarding segregated seating policies. She was fined $100 and released later that night.
