Rights

I look to Tom Regan’s “Animal Rights, Human Wrongs”, Mark Twain’s “The Damned Human Race”, and Stephen Rose’s “Proud to be a Speciesist” to get a better understanding of Human rights and Animal rights. The viewpoint of these three authors are rather different. Regan’s stance is solidly stated in the title of his short esseys, “Animal Rights, Human Wrongs“; however, Rose thinks animals have rights, but they must stop at some point and yield to man. Twain believes that humans are a lower form of being and that animals morally shine above us. In my opinion, the issue is too complex to sum up in three short essays, however, an explanation can be made on where an animals rights must yield to humans.
Animals must have rights. The human temperament must not allow animals to be treated like a tool or object rather than a living being. Shall humans kill animals for the thrill, the game, the high it may provide? Absolutely not. In Twains essay, he mentions the hunt...
