Response to Keeping Close To Home

1. After reading this article I felt the author had made a very strong point about the difference in classes we have in society. It is obvious that the author has spent some time in her life struggling with her past (mainly her family’s background in terms of class) and her future as an articulate and educated member of society. The confusion she faced arose from the fact that she was brought up in a working class family, and at times her family failed to see the value of education showing discouragement and criticism. The author explains that her parents reluctantly and skeptically supported her education endeavors.
