Response to Angela’s Ashes

This movie was very touching as it tries to reenact Frank McCourt’s novel. It’s a story about poverty, family, class difference but most of all, survival. In the movie, Frank and his family do what they must to survive in a place in which they are not wanted, where the father is drunkard and runs off, and the poor are kept poor without the opportunity to move up in the world.
Like many of the characters in the books we have read, Frank has had to deal with many traumatic experiences such as his brothers and sisters dying, starvation, living in horrible conditions, and having to become the man of the house. The father tried to escape this world and pain by drinking his life away. He had too much pride to beg while his family suffered but then when he did get some money he used it on the drink. Frank’s mother is the one who is really the example of the desperate measures one would take to survive. She begs for scraps of food, she b...
