Devotion is a difficult thing to not only measure but also to define, yet there are certain characteristic of devotion which can be applied to all religions. Canon outlines these ideas into three main classifications; competence, balance of finitude and infinitude, and lastly, selflessness. Universally, these serve as a tool to draw an individual closer to their understanding of ultimate reality. Yet, these basic parameters vary in degree for each individual situation. Mother Teresa is an excellent example to use as a backdrop for applying these restraints. Her life is unquestionably a model for humanity and her commitment seems to be rooted in something stronger then belief but in true devotion.
