Religion, as I see It: A Life of Choices
Religion is a set of beliefs by which we understand our world and our tiny place in it. It is a set of beliefs that defines our culture and expectations, as well as our views of people and behaviors. Religion acknowledges a significant power outside us (God). It is a spiritual path that allows us to move outside of our day-to-day needs and demands and provides us with a view of our place in the larger picture. It permits us to see our lives, our endeavors, and ourselves as part of a whole world – a tapestry of people, plans and creation. Faith, on the other hand, I believe is an organized group that thinks and feels the same way about religion. Catholicism would be an example of a faith, as would Buddhism and Judaism.
That I believe in God, Jesus, Mary and all the saints and apostles is an indisputable truth for me. I believe in the story of creation as written in Genesis. What I am not sure about with regard to the creation t...
