Procedures of Juvenile Facility

The Youth Development Center has developed and maintains procedures for systematically reviewing the records and behavior of youth in care to identify those who present a risk of suicide or self harm. When a suicide risk is identified, procedures are in place for appropriate response.

All suicide threats, gestures, or attempts must be given serious attention, regardless of how they are expressed. This type of behavior may be a symptom of crying out for help. Staff must never encourage, suggest, or glamorize suicidal threats, even in joking.

Facility staff will be on special alert for any sign which might indicate a resident is extremely depressed or contemplating suicide.
