Power and its Use and Abuse

Power is what every human desires most. Everything that we strive for can, and probably does in most cases, lead to power. Those who do reach a position of power are expected to use it unselfishly and benevolently. Of course, all through history there are many examples of power of power being used and abused.
One of the earliest people famous for abusing his position was the Roman Emperor Nero. He was corrupted and became totally power crazy. The most famous incident of this was when he reputedly “fiddled while Rome burned”, and it is also quite likely that he actually started the fire himself! There were quite a few other bad Roman emperors, but of course the empire would not have reached the awesome size it did if it had not been for some outstanding emperors who conquered vast areas of land in a phenomenally short period of time: emperors like Trajan, Marcus Aurelius and Julius Caesar all used their position of immense power to great effect.
