Archie is a lab dog;
Every year in the UK, more than four thousand beagles like Archie are used to develop and safety test pharmaceuticals;
Some of these experiments cause the dog’s pain and distress;
There is little respite;
When the days tests are completed they spend most of their time shut away in pens;
It’s a routine that can go on for as long as twelve months;
And then to complete the experiments the dogs are killed;
Altogether more than 2.5 million animals including rabbits, rats, mice, guinea pigs and birds are used in experiments each year in the UK;
Many animal protection groups are committed to campaigning for humane alternatives and challenging the need for the use of animals in research and testing, and until those alternatives are found, we must ensure that suffering caused to animals like Archie is kept to a minimum;
Each life is precious, even when it’s as short as Archie’s. ...
