philip larkin

The two creative writings are based on the poem, ‘The Whitsun Weddings’, by Philip Larkin, a poet of great significance and prestige.
He was born in Coventry in 1992 and soon grew to show flair in english, at school he contributed regularly to the school magazine, ‘The Coventrian’. His skill grew and at Oxford University he graduated with first class honours for English.
After his first published poem in 1940, ‘The Ultimatum’, he never looked back, as his fame grew and his works became known. In all his pieces his passion for poetry is shown, ‘Whitsun Weddings’, being no exception to this.
The poem was written in 1964 in a collection its self called the, ‘Whitsun Weddings’. The collection was well received and highly acclaimed, and it was in the following year that Larkin was awarded the queens gold medal for poetry.
Through Larkin’s life he received countless honoury medals, even till his last days, where he could not receive
