Passion and Nature combined

In her story, “The Storm,” Kate Chopin uses literary terms such as foreshadowing, imagery, and diction to connect nature to the passion of the characters in “The Storm.” Chopin’s terms seem to eliminate all guilt and sin of the extramarital sexual actions of the two main characters. Rather, she draws such rich parallels between the natural storm that readers are left to assume that the characters’ behavior is similarly natural and therefore, amoral.
The desire between Alcee and Calixta is burning, torrid, and definitely not planned, but Chopin uses many images and illustrations to foreshadow the events that happen. In fact, at the beginning of the story, Chopin tells readers that "even Bibi knew it was going to rain" (27). However, she also says that Calixta "did not notice the approaching storm" (27). She is so wrapped up in the industry taking care of her family and helping them that she doesn’t notice that a storm is approaching. The storm symbolizes...
