The novella Of Mice and Men written by John Steinbeck is a story that

unfortunately had to end sadly. It was truly a shame that in the end Lennie had to die.

Some might have seen the circumstance as something cruel, or fell that George did a

great injustice to Lennie and view him as a murderer. But if one read the story carefully

enough they might feel that George was justified to kill Lennie. The are many reasons

why George felt that Lennie had to die.

The first reason that George kills Lennie is that he might realize that Lennie

would die anyway spiritually if not physically. Lennie could die physically by the hands

of Curley or any of the other farmhands. “You don’t know that Curley. Curley gon’ta

wanta get ‘im lynched. Curley’ll get ‘im killed” (p.94). Curley is out for some extreme

revenge, he hunted him like an animal, and would have shot, lynched, or killed Lennie by

any means poss...
