Thanksgiving

Thanksgiving and football, a long tradition for many Portland people. The annual Turkey Day game between the Deering High School Rams and the Portland High School Bulldogs has taken place on Thanksgiving day for the past 92 years. The game has been played since 1911, with the exception of 1920 when the game was cancelled due to bad weather. Before sitting down to the traditional turkey dinner, many Portland families and friends come to watch the two cross town rivals play the last high school football game of the year. Portland has won 53 turkey day games and Deering 31, with 7 ending in ties.
