monomyth theory

As Joseph Campbell’s mono- myth theory explains, all myths share a common structure and they all have a similar features. The original Arthurian quest legend has been appropriated by many generations and has taken on many different forms. Examples of this appropriation can be seen in Malory’s “Mort d’ Athur”, “Monty Python and the Holy Grail” and Disneys “The sword in the Stone”. Although they have different mediums, and were written in different times, these three texts have effectively appropriated the cultural values and context. They main concepts appropriated in all three texts are the social class system, the hero, religion in society, and the role and representation of women.
